History
Jackie Rogers was the church historian for a number of years until she passed away recently.
1941 - The first Seventh-Day Adventists to live in Lee County were Mr. & Mrs. H.L. Solomon and Mr. Solomon's mother, Mrs. Lillie Solomon, who moved to Opelika from Andalusai, Alabama. Upon moving their memberships to the local conference, they received Sabbath School material and printed sermons to study. Mr. Solomon held meetings in his living room each Sabbath, inviting people of the Opelika area to join him for Bible studies.
1948 - With about 10 people meeting in Mr. Solomon's living room, they were formed into a company.
1968 - On August 13, 1968 this small group received "Church" status and was organized into the Opelika-Auburn Seventh-day Adventist Church by the local conference. Also in 1968, a 5-room house was purchased on Bradford Drive in Auburn. The members continued to worship in this home for many years with the hope of one day building a santuary.
1981 - Land was purchased in 1981 on the corner of East Glenn and Bent Creek Road.
1984 - A church building was completed in 1984.
1986 - The church members expanded their vision to include a school. With a desire to grow, the property was sold and the church began to search for a new location.
2005 - In July of 2005, seven acres of property was purchased at 2011 Columbus Parkway, Opelika, as the future site of the Auburn-Opelika Metro SDA Church. The small group renovated a home on the property and turned it into a temporary church, but had a desire and commitment to one day build a sanctuary and serve their community.
2008 - April 22, 2008, members of the church gathered on the hillside of their seven acres for the ground breaking.
2009 - In January of 2009 they moved into a new sanctuary.
2018 - August 25, 2018 they had a church dedication where they burned their mortgage.
Today, with a vision of further serving the Auburn and Opelika communities and in the near future establishing a Christian Elementary School, we thankfully worship in this sanctuary, a place for those looking for a church home. God has truly blessed the efforts of His church, and all glory, honor, and praise belong to Him.
